EDTC 816 Advanced Building Online Communities
This course focuses on theory, design, supportive tools, and practice surrounding online environments.
Professor: Dr. Laura Zieger
Spring 2020
The online scan was of the educational gamification referencing Johnson's (2013) article about attributes of a thriving online community. The following attributes covered: leadership, vibrant participation, shared values, responsiveness, shared identity, expertise, and rich experience.
Samantha Bahna, Damiano Mastrandrea, and I analyzed the key manager of an online educational community. The focus was to understand the strategies used to accomplish the online community's set goals and what metrics used to measure the progress towards the goals. The group analyzed the National Council for Teachers of English Conference on English Leadership, an organization dedicated to supporting literacy educators.
The final project was to design an online community showcased through a website. This website was about a support group for the gamified education community. It featured a community where educators can search for information on game-based learning, expert advice, and tips from the game creators and shared stories from the user community.
